TOTUSEK
WINS 22nd JUNIOR MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Oakland
- Omaha's Alex Totusek won the 22nd Nebraska Junior Match Play
Championship at Oakland Golf Club Thursday defeating Erik Krzyzanowski
of Scottsbluff 2 and 1 in the 36-hole final. It is Totusek's
first state title.
After
a back and forth opening nine, Totusek won holes 10-15 to take
a 5 up lead on Krzyzanowski, a Gonzaga University recruit. Krzyzanowski
birdied the 16th hole to reduce the deficit but lost the 18th
to a Totusek chip in.
The
pair traded holes again during the opening nine of the afternoon
session but this time it was Krzyzanowski making a run on the
back nine winning holes 30-32 trimming the deficit to two. After
trading holes on 33 and 34, Totusek eventually closed out Krzyzanowski
when both golfers birdied the 35th hole.
