SPELLERBERG WINS 6 AND 5

Fremont - John Spellerberg won the delayed Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship Saturday 6 and 5 over Erik Krzyzanowski of Scottsbluff. Spellerberg, who began the day with a 1 up advantage through 10 holes, finished the first 18-hole session winning three more holes (14, 16 & 18) to lead 4 up at the halfway point.

In the afternoon it was more of the same as Spellerberg built his advantage to 6 holes with birdies on holes 19 (FGC's #1) & 23 (FGC's #5). Krzyzanowski won holes 25 & 26 (FGC's 7 & 8) to trim the lead to 4 but Spellerberg quickly dowsed any hope of a comeback by winning the next three holes with birdies to go dormie with 7 holes to play. The match ended with both golfers making par on the 31st hole (FGC #13).

The state association championship is a first for Spellerberg. He was a finalist in 2009 falling to another Fremont native, Andy Sajevic at the Pines Country Club in Valley.
