SAJEVIC
AND LEMEK JUNIOR AMATEUR GOLFERS OF THE YEAR
Omaha, NE
- The Nebraska Golf Association (NGA) is proud to announce the
selection of its 2009 Nebraska Junior Amateur Players of
the Year. Andy Sajevic of Fremont, a freshman at the University
of North Carolina at Charlotte, is the boys recipient; Danielle
Lemek of Doniphan, a sophomore at Doniphan-Trumball High School,
is the girls recipient.
Sajevic became
the first golfer since Lincolns Steve Friesen (1995) to
claim both the Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship and the
Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship in the same season. In addition
Sajevic won the Class A State High School Tournament in May, was
runner-up at the 42nd Nebraska Match Play Championship in June
and recognized as Low Junior Amateur at the 101st Nebraska Amateur
Championship in July. He also claimed Nebraska's lone qualifying
spot and competed in the U.S. Amateur in August at Southern Hills
Country Club in Tulsa. Sajevic represented the NGA this summer
in both the Nebraska Cup Matches against the states top
golf professionals and the Nebraska-Kansas Junior Cup Matches
against a team representing the Kansas Golf Association. Most
recently Andy was named captain of the 2009 Nebraska Junior Golf
Tours annual All-Star Team. A graduate of Fremont High School,
Sajevic now competes for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
49ers Mens Golf Team. He previously won the Junior Amateur
Golfer of the Year award in 2007.
Lemek also
swept the NGAs girls summer state championships winning
both the Nebraska Girls Match Play Championship in June
and the Nebraska Girls Amateur Championship in July. In
addition, Lemek was champion at both the 2008 and 2009 Class C
State High School Tournaments and the Nebraska Junior PGA Championship
in June. At the Nebraska Womens Amateur Golf Associations
(NWAGA) Stroke Play Championship Lemek finished runner-up. She
also led NWAGAs junior select team squad to its first
victory since 2003 in the annual Four-State Team competition played
at Kansas Citys Mission Hills Country Club. Lemek won the
events individual title besting Kate Gallagher of Missouri
in a play-off. Most recently Lemek was named captain of the 2009
Nebraska Junior Golf Tours annual All-Star Team.
Both golfers
will be honored at the Nebraska Golf Association's Fall Awards
Banquet, which will take place Friday, November 6, at the Country
Club of Lincoln. In addition, the NGA will recognize its Nebraska
Amateur Player of the Year, NWAGAs Womens Amateur
Golfer of the Year and each of the 2009 amateur golf champions.
