SAJEVIC AND LEMEK JUNIOR AMATEUR GOLFERS OF THE YEAR

Omaha, NE - The Nebraska Golf Association (NGA) is proud to announce the selection of its’ 2009 Nebraska Junior Amateur Players of the Year. Andy Sajevic of Fremont, a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, is the boy’s recipient; Danielle Lemek of Doniphan, a sophomore at Doniphan-Trumball High School, is the girl’s recipient.

Sajevic became the first golfer since Lincoln’s Steve Friesen (1995) to claim both the Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship and the Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship in the same season. In addition Sajevic won the Class A State High School Tournament in May, was runner-up at the 42nd Nebraska Match Play Championship in June and recognized as Low Junior Amateur at the 101st Nebraska Amateur Championship in July. He also claimed Nebraska's lone qualifying spot and competed in the U.S. Amateur in August at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa. Sajevic represented the NGA this summer in both the Nebraska Cup Matches against the state’s top golf professionals and the Nebraska-Kansas Junior Cup Matches against a team representing the Kansas Golf Association. Most recently Andy was named captain of the 2009 Nebraska Junior Golf Tour’s annual All-Star Team. A graduate of Fremont High School, Sajevic now competes for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers Men’s Golf Team. He previously won the Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year award in 2007.

Lemek also swept the NGA’s girl’s summer state championships winning both the Nebraska Girl’s Match Play Championship in June and the Nebraska Girls’ Amateur Championship in July. In addition, Lemek was champion at both the 2008 and 2009 Class C State High School Tournaments and the Nebraska Junior PGA Championship in June. At the Nebraska Women’s Amateur Golf Association’s (NWAGA) Stroke Play Championship Lemek finished runner-up. She also led NWAGA’s junior select team squad to it’s first victory since 2003 in the annual Four-State Team competition played at Kansas City’s Mission Hills Country Club. Lemek won the event’s individual title besting Kate Gallagher of Missouri in a play-off. Most recently Lemek was named captain of the 2009 Nebraska Junior Golf Tour’s annual All-Star Team.

Both golfers will be honored at the Nebraska Golf Association's Fall Awards Banquet, which will take place Friday, November 6, at the Country Club of Lincoln. In addition, the NGA will recognize its Nebraska Amateur Player of the Year, NWAGA’s Women’s Amateur Golfer of the Year and each of the 2009 amateur golf champions.

The Nebraska Golf Association, founded in 1966, conducts the state's amateur golf championships, governs its member clubs, and serves as the handicapping and course rating authority for its members and its member clubs. The NGA has 26,000 members and 165 member clubs.
