Nebraska defeated
Kansas 10 1/2 to 5 1/2 at Kansas City Country Club Tuesday to
claim the annual Nebraska-Kansas Junior Cup Matches for a third
straight year. The event pits the top eight junior golfers from
Kansas and Nebraska against each other in a team match play competition
similar to the Ryder Cup.
Nebraska was
led by Andy Sajevic of Fremont and Josh Reinertson of Gibbon.
Both golfers earned victories as part of a team in four-ball and
foursomes matches Monday and as individuals in singles matches
Tuesday.
Nebraska now
leads the overall series 12-11.
Selection
of the Nebraska team was based upon the boy's NJGA point standings
published July 18, 2008. Those golfers ranked in the top seven
qualified for the team. The Nebraska Golf Association Board of
Directors granted the NGA Junior Committee the right to select
the remainder of the team, including replacements for qualifiers.
