North-South
Junior Cup (NJGA)
August 1, 2008 Ironwood Golf & Country Club,
Omaha
This event
pits the top 24 junior golfers from Nebraska against one another in a Ryder Cup-style
team competition. Competitors are selected based upon the Nebraska Junior Golf
Association's Point Standings as of July 18. Each team, the North and the South,
will be comprised of six boys and six girls who will be paired for two rounds
of team match-play competition (Four-Ball and Foursomes).
Nebraska-Kansas
Junior Cup Matches (NGA)
August 3-5, 2008 Kansas City Country Club,
Shawnee Mission, KS This
event pits the top eight junior golfers from Kansas and Nebraska against each
other in a team match play format. The competition begins Monday, August 4 with
morning Foursomes and afternoon Four-Ball matches and concludes Tuesday with eight
singles matches. Similar to the Ryder Cup, each match is worth one point. Nebraska
defeated Kansas 12 1/2 - 3 1/2 in the 2007 Junior Cup Matches at Wild Horse Golf
Club to even the overall series. It was the largest margin of victory ever in
the 22-year old competition. Selection
of the Nebraska team will be based upon the boy's NJGA point standings published
July 18, 2008. Those golfers ranked in the top seven will qualify for the team.
The Nebraska Golf Association Board of Directors has granted the NGA Junior Committee
the right to select the remainder of the team, including replacements for qualifiers.
Girl's
Four State Team Competition (NWAGA)
June 30-July 1, 2008 Leawood
South Country Club, Overland Park, KS A
five-member team representing Nebraska annually competes against teams from Iowa,
Kansas and Missouri. The format is 36-holes of team stroke-play competition where
the best four of five scores count each round. The Nebraska team is selected based
upon the NJGA Girl's Rankings following the Nebraska Girls' Match Play Championship,
which will be played June 4-6 at York Country Club. The top four players listed
on the NJGA Girl's Rankings will automatically qualify. The fifth selection will
be a "captain's choice".
