2022 NGA Junior All-Star Team Announced

Bryson, Karmazin and Ruge Headline All-Stars

OMAHA (November 13, 2022) - Ten juniors have been selected to the Nebraska Golf Association’s 2022 Junior All-Star Team, including team captains Thomas Bryson of Lincoln and Julia Karmazin and Katie Ruge of Omaha.

Members were selected based upon their performance in state and/or national tournaments and select team events this past season. In addition, other criteria considered include a player’s integrity and conduct both on and off the golf course.

Members of the 2022 team include:

Kolby Brown, Omaha Julia Karmazin, Omaha*

Trevor Gutschewski, Elkhorn Emily Krzyzanowski, Scottsbluff
Brock Kuhlman, Columbus Katie Ruge, Omaha*

Kolbas is an all-star for the fourth time, just one shy of the record, held by Wahoo's Hannah and Haley Thiele, and Doniphan’s Danielle Lemek. She has one more summer of eligibility and has a chance to tie the record. Ruge is the only other returner from last year's team, as the now-Kansas Jayhawk receives her third-straight selection. Emily Karmazin of Omaha makes her second team, after being selected to the 2020 team. She now plays for the Omaha Maverick women's golf team. Her younger sister, Julia Karmazin of Omaha, is a first time all-star. She's a junior at Elkhorn North High School. Emily Krzyzanowski of Scottsbluff is first-time selection as well. She's a graduate of Gering High School and now plays at Valparaiso University in Indiana.

All five boys are first-time selections, including the 2022 Nebraska Junior Amateur Champion Trevor Gutschewski of Elkhorn and the 2022 Nebraska Junior Match Play Champion Jackson Benge of Omaha. Brown, Omaha Westside, and Kuhlman, Columbus High School, are the only graduated seniors. Brown now plays at Creighton University, while Kuhlman is in the PGM program at UNL. Bryson is a sophomore at Lincoln Southeast, and was the Low Junior at the Nebraska Amateur, while Benge is a junior and Gutschewski is a sophomore at Omaha Westside.

The Nebraska Golf Association, founded in 1966, is comprised of all members of public and private clubs and/or municipal or regional golf associations which utilize an approved handicap service recognized by the USGA and provided by the NGA. Our mission is to uphold and promote the game of golf and its values to all golfers in Nebraska. Among the duties of the Association include governance of member clubs and service as their handicapping and course rating authority, conduct of state golf championships, local USGA qualifying & other notable competitions, promotion of junior golf, presentation of worthwhile educational programs and support of allied golf organizations in Nebraska.
