Three Things You Should Try This Golf Season
Active Posting Season Begins March 15
The official golf season is upon us here in Nebraska — and there's nothing like a winter weather advisory to usher it in.
Still, the extended forecast looks promising for NebGolfers to get out and start posting scores once the Active Posting Season begins on March 15.
Scores can technically be posted now in Nebraska, but why not try something different this year? Here are a few ideas that might make this your best golf season yet.
Play a Different Set of Tees
I’m a big proponent of mixing things up. Every round of golf is different — and that’s one of the great things about the game — but it can still get a little monotonous if you’re hitting the same clubs into the same greens every time.
Try moving up a set of tees and see what it’s like to hit more greens and have a few more realistic birdie chances. Or just make more pars/bogeys, depending on where you're at with your game.
In fact, I think everyone should play the most forward tees at their course at least once a year. It forces you to rethink how you attack each hole and might not be quite as easy as you expect.
And while I know I should probably be saying “tee it forward,” I also think it’s worthwhile to move back a tee every once in a while. Challenge yourself and gain a new appreciation for the difficulty of your course — just make sure you keep up with the group ahead of you.
Walk at Least Nine Holes
Walking a round of golf is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the game.
It connects you to the course in a different way. It gives you more time to talk with the people in your group. And if you're playing solo, it offers a little extra time to enjoy the quiet and solitude of being outside.
Walking is also some of the best exercise many of us will get all week — and hopefully helps keep us playing the game for many years to come.
If you haven’t done it in a while, I’d highly recommend a twilight nine-hole walk after work.
Play a New Course
There are so many great golf courses across Nebraska — the highly acclaimed, the hidden gems, and the ones you may have never even heard of.
Pick one and give it a shot. It’s hard to go wrong.
If you live in Omaha or Lincoln, consider getting out of the city and visiting a small-town course. There are dozens of great options within an hour’s drive in every direction. Our course directory is a great place to start exploring.
Nebraska’s nine-hole golf scene is incredible as well. If you live in central or western Nebraska, there's endless options to try a new nine-hole course. Take a chance on one you’ve never played — you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised.
Let us know if you try any of these by tagging us on Instagram, Facebook, X or TikTok. Whether you get the chance to try any of these or not, get out and play some golf in 2026. Enjoy the game, post those scores, and let us know what your golf season looks like.
