Whittaker Captures First Nebraska Women's Mid-Amateur Title

Final Round Conducted Thursday at Oakland Golf Club

OAKLAND (September 17, 2026) - Elkhorn's Megan Whittaker captured her first title as a mid-amateur, winning the 6th Nebraska Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Oakland Golf Club on Thursday.

Whittaker, a former Husker, opened up a big lead with a first round 70 (-2). She was the only player to break par, and closed out the championship with a Final Round 77 (+5). It delivered a 10-stroke victory for Whittaker, who finished with a 147 (+3) total.

It is the second-largest winning margin in the championship's short history, matching Bellevue's Kayla Barnes' 10-stroke victory in 2023. Lincoln's' Carrie Bostar holds the record with a 12-stroke win in 2022.

Barnes and Bostar are the only other Women's Mid-Amateur Champions, holding the other five titles, and now Whittaker joins them with her first. It is Whittaker's fifth overall NebGolf title though, adding to her Nebraska Women's Amateur, Nebraska Women's Match Play, and two Nebraska Girls' Match Play titles. That moves her into a tie for ninth all-time.

Omaha's Emily Gonderinger finished runner-up with rounds of 79 (+7) and 78 (+6) for a 157 (+13) total.

The 2026 Nebraska Senior Women's Amateur Champion, Steph Kolbas of Lincoln, finished third with a 158 (+14) total. Megan Place McAfee of Omaha took fourth at 162 (+18), and Miae Hatfield of Elkhorn rounded out the top 5 with a 165 (+21) total.
