McCabe Captures Inaugural Nebraska Mid-Amateur Match Play
Semifinals and Final Conducted Tuesday at Happy Hollow Club
OMAHA (October 6, 2026) - Omaha's Dylan McCabe captured the Inaugural Nebraska Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship at Happy Hollow Club in Omaha on Tuesday.
The new championship kicked off in April, with Mid-Amateurs (25-and-older) competing in a 64-player match play bracket. Players scheduled their own matches at golf courses of their choice, all the way until the Semifinals and Final. The last four golfers were scheduled to compete last week at Happy Hollow Club, but the excessive rain in Omaha forced a postponement until Tuesday.
McCabe, a former Husker, defeated Elkhorn's Alex Farrell in the Final, 2 and 1. It is his first NebGolf title.
The players tied the opening five holes, but McCabe made the first move with a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole. He won No. 8 with a par as well, but Farrell won his first hole on No. 9, and McCabe held a 1-up lead after nine holes.
McCabe pushed his lead to 2 up again on No. 13. However, Farrell made a late push with birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 to tie the match. McCabe did not waste any time in regaining his lead though, as he birdied No. 16, and added another on N0. 17 to close out the match, 2 and 1.
The morning Semifinals also featured tight matches, with McCabe fighting back to defeat Plainview's Matt Meuret, 2 up. Meuret won three of the first four holes, but McCabe had tied the match by the turn, and won Nos. 17 and 18 to close out the match.
Farrell, a former UNK golfer, had a furious finish to take out Omaha's Jake Anderson in his Semifinal. Anderson was 1 up through eight holes, but Farrell won five of the next nine holes to advance to the Final with a 2-and-1 win.
McCabe's path to the title was impressive, as he defeated Omaha's Tony Franks, 3 and 2, in the Round of 64, and survived a battle against Papillion's Jake Hirz, 1 up, in the Round of 32. He then took down three-time Nebraska Mid-Amateur Champion Travis Minzel of Lincoln in the Round of 16, 4 and 3. His ticket to the Semifinals was punched with a Quarterfinal win over Omaha's Brett Gallinger, 3 and 2.
