Mittag is Back as Nebraska Junior Golfer of the Year

Second Award for Oklahoma Commit

OMAHA (November 11, 2025) - The Nebraska Golf Association is proud to announce the selection of Ashland's Coltrane Mittag as the 2025 Nebraska Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year presented by SWAG.

Mittag, who is homeschooled and in the Class of 2026, once again ran away with the points race thanks to combination of quality play on the national level and locally as well. The Oklahoma Sooner commit is the 12th player to win the award twice, having shared the honor with Omaha's Trevor Gutschewski in 2023.

Mittag had a couple of impressive performances locally in 2025. He was the Low Junior at the 117th Nebraska Amateur Championship at The Club at Indian Creek in Elkhorn in June. It was the second-straight such honor for him. Mittag finished third overall and was one of just three golfers to finish under-par for the championship. A final round 69 (-3) moved him up the leaderboard with a 285 (-3) total, just a stroke back from second.

After close calls the previous three years at U.S. Open Local Qualifying, Mittag busted the door down this year. He fired a 66 (-5) at Omaha Country Club in May to secure one of four spots into Final Qualifying for the 125th U.S. Open. Mittag was just a stroke back from medalist honors, after rolling in five birdies on his back nine to finish second. He went on to shoot rounds of 70 (-1) and 72 (+1) at Final Qualifying, missing the cut to advance to the U.S. Open.

In the 36th Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island, Mittag advanced to the Round of 16. He fell to the eventual runner-up, Nash Malone of Kearney, despite finishing with three-straight birdies. Malone pulled out the 1-up win to advance.

Nationally, Mittag had another stellar year. He finished in the Top 10 at the prestigious Western Junior Championship, and tied for 12th at the North & South Junior at Pinehurst Resort, where he is a past champion. Mittag had several other high finishes on the AJGA circuit, including a tied for 11th at the Wyndham Invitational against one of the strongest fields on the tour.

In addition, Mittag performed his best in select team events representing Nebraska. He went a perfect 3-0 at the 36th Kansas-Nebraska Junior Cup Matches at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln in August. Mittag led Team Nebraska to reclaim the trophy in a dominant win over Kansas. He then helped Nebraska win the 2025 Director's Cup this fall in Iowa, as the only junior golfer in the event.

Mittag will be honored at the Nebraska Golf Association's Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, November 21 at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln (Tickets can be purchased here). In addition, NebGolf will recognize its Amateur Golfer of the Year, Women’s Amateur Golfer of the Year, Girls' Amateur Golfer of the Year and Senior Amateur Golfer of the Year.
