Morrison Takes 103rd Nebraska Women's Match Play Title
Championship Final Conducted Thursday at York Country Club
YORK (July 23, 2026) - North Platte's Karsen Morrison jumped out to a lead and never let go on her way to win the 103rd Nebraska Womenβs Match Play Championship, on Thursday at York Country Club.
Morrison, a Creighton Bluejay, defeated Lincoln's Elly Honnens in the Final, 3 and 1, to secure her first NebGolf title. She had never made it past the Quarterfinals in any of her previous appearances, but could not be stopped in 2026, taking down two NebGolf champions and a teammate on her way to the title.
Morrison is the first NebGolf champion from North Platte since the great Val Skinner, who won four, the last at the 1980 Nebraska Women's Match Play Championship.
It was a perfect start to the Final for Morrison, who hit her approach shot close and rolled in the birdie to take a 1-up lead. Honnens, an Omaha Maverick, answered back with a win on No. 3, but the match would not be tied for long.
A birdie on No. 5 started a run of three wins in four holes for Morrison. Pars on Nos. 7 and 8 moved her to 3 up in the match. Honnens stayed within striking distance with a birdie on No. 9, and Morrison took a 2-up lead to the back nine.
Morrison took firm control of the match on the second nine, winning Nos. 11 and 13 with pars to move out to her largest lead yet, 4 up. Honnens would not go away though, and battled back to win Nos. 14 and 15 to stay alive.
It all ended on the signature par-4 17th hole though. Morrison made a par to win her seventh hole of the match, and close out the Final with a 3-and-1 win.
During her run to the title, Morrison defeated Omaha golfers Sarah Lasso and Honnens, Creighton teammate Madison Murnan, two-time Nebraska Girls' Match Play Champion KayLynn Jorgensen of Minden and two-time Nebraska Women's Match Play Champion Katie Ruge of Omaha.red with a win on the 15th hole, and a par on No. 16 closed out the match, 3 and 2.
