Norfolk CC to Host 22nd Nebraska Senior Amateur

Championship Begins Thursday at Norfolk Country Club

NORFOLK (August 26, 2020) - The field is set for the 22nd Nebraska Senior Amateur Championship at Norfolk Country Club, August 27-28, and it includes six past champions.

Fremont’s John Sajevic headlines the field of 78 players. He'll look to add a fifth Nebraska Senior Amateur trophy to his shelf, along with his 11th total NGA title, which would give him the most all-time. Last year, he survived a late final round charge from Jay Muller of Bennington, and won by a stroke at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln. It was a record-extending fourth title for Sajevic, and he became just the second player to win in back-to-back years.

Last year’s runner-up, Muller, is also a past champion, winning his own title in 2015 at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle. The other past champions in the field include Carl Johnson of Omaha (2017), Mike Krumland of Columbus (2006, 2014), Bill Lawson of Omaha (2009) and Gary Bowen of Omaha (2001).

A few past Nebraska Senior Match Play Champions are looking to add a stroke play title to their resumes. Chris Mangan of Omaha won his match play title in 2013, while the last two Senior Match Play Champions, Ed Wyatt of Lincoln (2019) and Matt Haynes of Bellevue (2018) are also in the field.

Other past NGA champions in the field, include 1986 Nebraska Match Play Champion David Walker of Omaha, 2000 Nebraska Amateur Champion Ed Person of Omaha, 2000 Nebraska Mid-Amateur champion Skip Gist of Omaha and 2005 Nebraska Mid-Amateur Champion Rick Dusek of Omaha.

The championship features 36-holes of stroke play competition over two days, and will be played at Norfolk Country Club for the second time. The par-72 layout will measure 6,596 yards for the Championship Division, with age divisional and net competition also included. Play begins Thursday with starting times off Nos. 1 and 10 from 8 - 10 a.m.

Pairings for the first round are available on the championship website below, along with the scoring page and additional information.
