Impressive Field Set for Nebraska Mid-Amateur

Championship Begins Saturday at Lochland Country Club

OMAHA (August 21, 2025) - An impressive field is set for the 27th Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship at Lochland Country Club in Hastings this weekend.

The field of 115 players features six past champions, including the defending champion David Easley of Lincoln. Easley won his first title last year in playoff, securing his second individual NebGolf title to go along with his 2021 Nebraska Amateur win, which he won at Lochland. He also owns three Nebraska Four-Ball titles.

Easley is paired with Elkhorn's Austin Miller, another multiple Four-Ball Champion, and Lincoln's Jay Moore in the first round at 1:40 p.m. off No. 1. Moore owns the lowest round in the championship's history, a 65 (-7) in 2020 at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell.

Three three-time champs are in the field, looking to break the tie for the most titles with a fourth victory. Johnny Spellerberg of Bennington became the first to win three-straight Mid-Amateur titles in 2023. He also owns three of the top four 36-hole scores in championship history. Spellerberg will play alongside another three-timer, Travis Minzel of Lincoln, in the first round. Minzel won his titles in 2010, 2011 and 2018. They'll be joined at 1:30 p.m. off No. 10 by Elkhorn's Daniel Huston, who finished tied for fifth last year.

Elkhorn's Ryan Nietfeldt has the largest spread of any champion, winning his three titles in 2001, 2013 and 2019. He's had another solid year, winning the Fremont Invitational, and recently qualified for the 2025 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. Nietfeldt will be joined by Ralston's Peyton Koch and Omaha's Matt Quandt at 9:40 a.m. off No. 1.

The reigning Nebraska Amateur Champion Andy Sajevic of Omaha will play in the following group, along with his father, John Sajevic of Fremont, and William Amundsen of Bennington. Andy and John won the Nebraska Four-Ball this spring, before Andy went on to win his fifth Nebraska Amateur title in June. He won the Nebraska Mid-Amateur in 2020.

Lincoln's Mike Vanier, the 2009 Champion, is back to compete for the first time in 11 years. The last Mid-Amateur he played was in 2014. Vanier is paired with Lincoln's Scott Tridle and Omaha's Patrick Tryon at 1:30 p.m. off No. 1.

Lochland Country Club is a par-72 layout and will play around 7,043 yards for the championship. It is the first time hosting the championship for the Hastings club, but it has hosted several other championships, including the 2021 Nebraska Amateur.

The 36-hole stroke play championship begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday with morning and afternoon waves off Nos. 1 and 10 for Round One. The Final Round will follow the same schedule on Sunday, with the leaders expected to start around 2 p.m.

Pairings for the first round are available on the championship website below, along with the scoring page and additional information.
