Kottmeyer, Malone to Face-off in Boys' Final

GRAND ISLAND (July 9, 2025) - KayLynn Jorgensen of Minden went on a run to win the 63rd Nebraska Girls' Match Play Championship on Wednesday at Riverside Golf Club, while Ben Kottmeyer of Lincoln and Nash Malone of Kearney will play in the Final of the 36th Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship on Thursday.

Jorgensen secured her first NebGolf title by defeating Lincoln's Isabella Elgert, 4 and 3, in the Championship Final. The rising senior at Minden High School was trailing after nine holes, but caught fire on the back nine to secure the win. She won five of the last six holes on the back nine to close out the match on No. 15.

Elgert led the match, 1 up, at the turn, but Jorgensen won Nos. 10 and 11 to take her first lead since a birdie on the opening hole. She also won No. 12, and then rolled in another birdie on No. 13 to push her lead to 3 up. Jorgensen stuck her approach shot close on the par-4 15th, and rolled in a final birdie to close out the match.

On the boys' side, Kottmeyer and Malone each had to battle their way to the Final, both in search of a first title. Kottmeyer closed out Omaha's Christopher Whittle, 1 up, on the 18th green, and then had to face the No. 1 seed, Tommy Kelley of Omaha.

Kelley birdied the last three holes of the Semifinal match to tie the match, after Kottmeyer had held a 2-up lead through 15 holes. Both players birdied the first extra hole (No. 1), and Kelley hit his approach shot close on No. 2. However, Kottmeyer rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt first, and Kelley's birdie putt slid by, ending the match in 20 holes.

Malone went back and forth with Lincoln's Thomas Bryson in his Semifinal match, with neither player taking more than a 1-up lead. Bryson held the lead heading into the 18th hole, but Malone birdied the par-5 to force extra holes. The marathon match continued, as they tied the next three holes. Malone finally came up clutch with a birdie on No. 4 to win in 22 holes.

The Boys' Final will start at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. The updated brackets are available under the Scoring tab of the championship websites below, along with full qualifying results and additional information.
