Sajevic Continues to Lead 117th Nebraska Amateur after Round Two

Round Two Suspended Tuesday, Completed Wednesday at The Club at Indian Creek

ELKHORN (June 25, 2025) - Weather was again the story at The Club at Indian Creek on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the headline was Elkhorn's Andy Sajevic, who continued to pace the field at the 117th Nebraska Amateur Championship.

Play was suspended at 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday night due to darkness, after another 2.5 hour suspension early due to severe weather. The second round was completed on Wednesday morning, with rain showers early, followed by sunny and breezy conditions.

In search of a fifth title, Sajevic, closed out his second-straight round of 69 (-3) to continue to hold the lead at 138 (-6). He is in search of a fifth title, and would be just the fourth player to do so, and the first in 60 years.

Sajevic's round was bogey-free, the only one of the championship so far. He made birdies on three of the four par-5s at Indian Creek to get to 3-under on his round. Sajevic is 5-under on the par-5s through two rounds.

Gretna's Nolan Johnson fired the round of the championship so far, a 67 (-5) to jump into second at 139 (-5). The Omaha Maverick tallied seven birdies during his round, including a closing birdie on the par-4 ninth hole to move within one stroke of the lead. Both he and Sajevic finished their rounds on Tuesday night, and avoided another suspension.

Calvin Freeman of Table Rock and Evan McDermott of Lincoln each posted under-par rounds playing alongside each other to move into a tie for third at 141 (-3). Freeman, the 2023 Nebraska Match Play Champion, was one of six players to break 70 in the second round, with a 69 (-3). McDermott, a Husker golfer, was within a stroke of the lead at 5-under, but a double-bogey on No. 16 dropped him back into the tie with Freeman.

Omaha's Luke Gutschewski is put together a second-straight round of 71 (-1), playing in Sajevic's group. Gutschewski, a recent graduate of Iowa State, is in fifth at 142 (-2), four strokes back.

Two more players are in red numbers through 36 holes, including Lincoln's Travis Minzel and Omaha's Grant Feldman, who are tied for sixth at 143 (-1). A talented group of youngsters are tied for eighth at 144 (E). The 2025 Nebraska Junior Amateur Champion Jaxson Hinze of Waco and the 2024 Nebraska Amateur Low Junior Coltrane Mittag of Ashland are part of that group at even-par. Omaha Maverick Sam Vocelka and Omaha's Jack Kelley, another junior golfer round out the Top 10.

Round Three will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with groups of three off both Nos. 1 and 10. The leaders, Sajevic, Johnson and McDermott are set to tee off No. 1 at 2:40 p.m.
