Sajevic Takes Lead at 117th Nebraska Amateur

Round One Conducted Monday at The Club at Indian Creek

ELKHORN (June 24, 2025) - A weather suspension at The Club at Indian Creek did not cool down Omaha's Andy Sajevic during the first round of the 117th Nebraska Amateur, as he closed out strong on Tuesday morning to take the lead.

Sajevic, a four-time Champion, closed out his first round on fire for a round of 69 (-3) to jump out to the lead. He is in search of a fifth title, and would be just the fourth player to do so, and the first in 60 years.

The first round was suspended twice on Monday due to severe weather, and did not resume after the second suspension at 6:04 p.m. The weather continued throughout the night, and Round One resumed at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and eventually concluded shortly before 11 a.m.

Sajevic was 1-over when play was halted on Monday, and caught fire on Tuesday morning during a difficult scoring round. He made four birdies to play the rest of his first round in 4-under, taking a one-stroke lead over two players.

Husker golfer Evan McDermott and Creighton golfer Grant Feldman are tied for second, after both completed rounds of 70 (-2) on Monday. Feldman had a record round in sight, after a back nine 30 (-6), his first nine. However, he cooled off to drop to 2-under. Meanwhile, McDermott played a steady round with four birdies and two bogeys.

Only three other players were able to break par, with Luke Gutschewski, Jackson Benge and Jack Kelley, all of Omaha, shooting 71 (-1). Ten players posed even-par rounds of 72, including the 2021 Champion David Easley of Lincoln and the 2025 Nebraska Junior Amateur Champion Jaxson Hinze of Waco, who were playing alongside each other. Hinze opened his round with four-straight birdies, but was halted by the first suspension, and then rebounded this morning to close out his round.

Round Two began at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, but was halted at 11 a.m. due to more storms. Play resumed at 1:30 p.m., with Round Two expected to be finished on Wednesday morning.
