Schaake is Medalist Again, Three Others Advance to U.S. Open Final Qualifying

U.S. Open Local Qualifying Conducted on Wednesday at Omaha Country Club

OMAHA (May 7, 2025) - Carson Schaake of Omaha earned medalist honors once again and was one of four players to advance past Local Qualifying for the 2025 U.S. Open on Wednesday at Omaha Country Club.

Schaake fired a round of 65 (-6) to take the top spot in Local Qualifying for the fourth time since 2019. He produced the only bogey-free round of the day, rolling in six birdies to punch his ticket to Final Qualifying again. The Iowa Hawkeye alum and 2014 Nebraska Amateur Golfer of the Year advanced through Local and Final Qualifying in 2021 to play in the 121st U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. Schaake repeated the feat last year to play in the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort. He's now a teaching pro at Tiburon Golf Club in Omaha.

Ashland's Coltrane Mittag took the second qualifying spot with a round of 66 (-5). The Oklahoma Sooner commit finally broke through after close calls the last three years. His five birdies on the back nine vaulted him into securing a spot.

Lincoln's Nate Vontz and Husker golfer Rudy Sautron captured the last two spots after rounds of 68 (-3). Vontz played his final three holes in 3-under advance to Final Qualifying for the third time. Sautron, a sophomore from France, made a clutch birdie on No. 9, his last hole to secure his spot.

Jackson Benge of Omaha is the first alternate after a round of 69 (-2), while another Husker golfer, Hamish Murray of Australia, won a five-player playoff for the second alternate spot.

The four qualifiers will play next at one of 10 Final Qualifying sites, which will take place on June 2. Top finishers from those sites will advance to the 125th U.S. Open, June 12-15, at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.
