FOUR ADVANCE FROM OCC TO US OPEN FINAL QUALIFYING

Four Nebraskans advanced from Local Qualifying for the U.S Open Wednesday at Omaha Country Club. Professional Scott Gutschewski of Elkhorn was medalist with a 3-under par 68. The other three place winners also were under par including Husker golfer, Grant Jabenis of Omaha (-2) and a pair of golfers at (-1) including recent Nebraska Four-Ball champion, Johnny Spellerberg of Bennington and professional, Alex Schaake of Omaha. Professional, Nate Vontz of Lincoln is the first alternate (E) and Creighton golfer, Jake Boor of Omaha is the second alternate following a play-off. Final Qualifying for those that advanced is in early June with a spot on the line for the 123rd U.S. Open Championship at Los Angeles Country Club June 15-18.

Eligibility

Entries are open to professional golfers, amateur golfers, and applicants for reinstatement. Amateurs and applicants for reinstatement must have an up-to-date Handicap Indexยฎ based on ratings for men not exceeding 1.4 under the Rules of Handicapping. A current Handicap ID number (GHIN) issued through an authorized golf club is required and must be submitted on the entry form.

Amateur Status: All amateur players must conform to the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by the United States Golf Association and The R&A.

Performance in Local Qualifying: If a player fails to return a score within eight strokes of the Course Rating™, future entries for a U.S. Open Championship may be declined if documentation is not provided demonstrating that the player is capable of competing at the national championship level. Please note that players who โ€œno cardโ€ are subject to receive a letter from the USGA under the same guidelines as those who do not return a score within eight strokes of the Course Rating.

Withdrawal from Qualifying: Players can withdraw by logging into their account and clicking on the WITHDRAW tab. They must also notify the Official in Charge prior to their scheduled Qualifying round. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from future USGA competitions.

 

Entry Fee

Entry fee of $200 must be paid by every player. Players who withdraw prior to close of entries will receive a refund less a service charge. Players can withdraw by logging into their account and clicking on the WITHDRAW tab. Players who withdraw prior to the close of entries will receive a refund of $150. Players who withdraw after the close of entries and by 10:59 PM CDT two days prior of the qualifier will receive a refund of $100. Players who withdraw after 10:59 PM CDT two days prior of the qualifier will not receive a refund.

 

Closing Date

ENTRY APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY USGA NO LATER THAN 4 P.M. C.D.T. on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12, 2023. Late applications are not acceptable and will be automatically rejected. (Entries by telephone, telegraph, mail or FAX are not acceptable.) Time limit for entries means time of receipt at USGA (not time entry is transmitted to USGA). Entries should be submitted early to allow ample time for delay or error in transmission. The risk of delay or error in transmission lies solely with the entrant and the USGA will have no liability with respect to any such delay or error and the consequences therefrom, including rejection of the entry.

 

Format

Local Qualifying: 18-holes, at stroke play.

 

Prizes

Local Qualifying: Silver medal awarded to lowest score; if a tie, duplicate medals will be awarded.

 

Score Posting

Nebgolf will post Stroke Play scores for all competitors in the field who have a Handicap Indexยฎ issued by the USGA.

Qualifying Places
78 players will be competing for four (4) qualifying and two (2) alternate places. A tie for the last qualifier's place, or an alternate's place will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off.

Practice rounds can be arranged by contacting Golf Professional, Dominick Mitchum at 402-571-7470 or email dmitchum@omahacc.org; Each participant is limited to 1 practice round, the fee is $95 (does not include cart); one non-participant guest is permitted for the normal club guest fee of $250. Upon arrival for your practice round, please use the bag drop and check in at the Golf Shop; The club asks that participants limit use of the practice facility to pre-round only up to one hour prior to your starting time.
