Thiele Leads Girls' Amateur, Hinze on Top at Junior Amateur
Round Two Conducted Tuesday at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course
KEARNEY (June 10, 2025) - Wahoo's Brooke Thiele holds the 36-hole lead at the 25th Nebraska Girls' Amateur Championship and Waco's Jaxson Hinze leads the 58th Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship after the second round at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney on Tuesday.
Thiele is in search of her first title, and would join her older sisters Haley and Hannah as a Nebraska Girls' Amateur Champion. She'd also become the fifth Thiele sister to win a NebGolf Title. Thiele fired a round of 72 (+1) to hang on to her first round lead, and heads into the final round leading by three strokes at 147 (+5).
Thiele had an up-and-d0wn round, recording five birdies and an eagle, but also making five bogeys and a triple-bogey. It was a wild finish for her, as she made an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole, and followed with a birdie on the par-3 seventh. Then she rebounded from a triple bogey on No. 8, the most difficult hole this week, with a closing birdie on No. 9.
Hinze had a much smoother round on Tuesday, firing a 71 (E) to hold on to his first round lead. He sits atop the boys' field at 139 (-3) and leads by two strokes. Hinze made two birdies and two bogeys for his even-par round, and held his lead the entire way.
Lincoln's Carter Honnens recorded one of six rounds under-par during the second round, after just one in the first round. He shot a 68 (-3) to move into second at 141 (-1). Zack Erstad of Lincoln posted a second straight 71 (E) and is tied for third with Hastings' Braeden Dyer at 142 (E). Dyer also found red numbers, carding a 69 (-2).
Two more players broke par to move into a tie for fifth at 143 (+1), including Kearney's own Tate Redinger, who shot 69 (-2). Omaha's Tommy Kelley joined him, tying for the round of the day with a 67 (-4) to move into the Top 5. Elkhorn's Tyler Nietfeldt also shot 67 (-4), bouncing back from a first round 82 (+11) to comfortably make the cut at 149 (+7).
Back on the girls' side, Lincoln's Eden Larson is three strokes back in second at 150 (+8), after matching Thiele for the low round of the day, a 72 (+1). Isabella Elgert of Lincoln and Ansley Giesselmann of Fremont are tied for third at 153 (+11). Minden's KayLynn Jorgensen rounds out the Top 5 at 154 (+12).
Exactly 15 players made the cut at 171 (+29) or better for the Girls' Amateur, while 38 players advanced at 154 (+12) or better on the boys' side.
