Mittag Captures 59th Nebraska Match Play Title

Final Conducted Friday at Oak Hills Country Club

OMAHA (June 26, 2026) – Ashland's Coltrane Mittag picked up his first NebGolf title on Friday, defeating Omaha's Ryan Rogers in the Final of the 59th Nebraska Match Play Championship at Oak Hills Country Club on Friday.

Mittag, a two-time Nebraska Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year, secured his first NebGolf trophy in a hard-fought battle against Rogers in the 36-hole Final, eventually winning, 3 and 1.

He's the second-youngest champion in Nebraska Match Play history, at 18 years, nine months and 19 days, just a little more than a month older than Gretna's Beau Petersen was in 2024 when he won. Mittag is headed to the University of North Carolina after spending his first year-plus at Oklahoma University.

It was a back-and-forth battle throughout the day, with neither player leading more than 2-up until the last six holes, where Mittag took control.

After more than 100 holes of golf, both players were sharp in the morning. Rogers made the first move, winning No. 2 and then No. 3 with a birdie. Mittag answered by taking three of the next four holes, and had a stretch of four-straight birdies on Nos. 5-8. He pushed his lead to 2 up with a par on No. 12.

Rogers put together an incredible run to close the first 18 holes. After making 11-straight fours, Rogers parred the par-3 15th hole, and then hit his tee shot to five-feet on the short par-4 16th hole. He rolled in the eagle putt, and then make birdie on the par-5 17th hole to tie the match. Another birdie chance on the 18th hole came up short, and the match was tied after the first 18 holes.

The second 18 started much like the first, as Rogers birdie the first and won No. 4 to take a 2-up lead, matching his largest lead. However, he would only win one more hole throughout the rest of the match.

Mittag nearly made an eagle on the par-5 sixth, but the birdie was enough for the win, and then he won No. 7 with a bogey to tie the match again. After 27 holes, the match was still tied as they headed to the back nine.

The back nine was all Mittag's though, as he stuck his approach shot close on No. 11 and rolled in the birdie putt, then won Nos. 12 and 13 with pars, taking the largest lead at 3 up. Rogers recovered with a win on No. 14, and had an eagle-putt on No. 16 again, but left it on the high-side. Mittag made his birdie on No. 16 to maintain the 2-up lead.

Both players hit perfect drives on the par-5 17th, but Rogers flared his second shot short and right, and it found the penalty area. Mittag missed left in a tricky spot, but played for par, and when Rogers missed a chip for his par, the hole and the match was conceded.
