Jorgensen Goes Back-to-Back at Nebraska Girls' Match Play

Elgert, Nietfeldt to Play in Boys' Final at Fremont Golf Club

FREMONT (July 9, 2026) - Minden's KayLynn Jorgensen secured back-to-back titles at the 64th Nebraska Girls' Match Play Championship on Thursday at Fremont Golf Club, while Lincoln's Miles Elgert and Elkhorn's Andrew Nietfeldt advanced to the Final of the 37th Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship.

Jorgensen triumphed in just the third extra hole Final in Nebraska Girls' Match Play history, coming back to defeat Wahoo's Brooke Thiele in 19 holes. Only twice before has the Final gone past regulation, in 1995 when Sarah Sasse defeated Elizabeth Bahensky, and 2007 when Kylie Smith defeated Anna Christenson, both in 19 holes.

The back-to-back run makes Jorgensen the 10th player to win consecutive titles, and she joins 12 other players who have won multiple Girls' Match Play trophies. Jorgensen finished runner-up to Thiele last month at the Nebraska Girls' Amateur, but turned the tides in July.

It was a back-and-forth Final, with Thiele taking the lead late with a birdie on No. 16. However, Jorgensen won the 18th hole, when Thiele's tee shot went out-of-bounds. Jorgensen nearly made birdie, and her par was conceded to send the match to extra holes.

Jorgensen went fairway-green again on the par-4 first hole, while Thiele found tree trouble on both sides and took four strokes to get on the green. The birdie putt from Jorgensen rolled up close, and Thiele conceded the hole and the match.

In the boys' Semifinals, Elgert and Nietfeldt each closed out their matches before the 18th hole. Elgert squared up against good friend Carter Honnens of Lincoln, the No. 1 seed. Honnens held a 1-up lead at the turn, but Elgert made five birdies on the back nine and closed out the match on No. 17, 2 and 1.

Nietfeldt, son of Ryan Nietfeldt (1993 Champion), took down the No. 2 seed, Jaxson Hinze of Waco, in the Quarterfinals. Nietfeldt rolled in a birdie putt on the 19th hole to advance to the Semifinals to take on Hickman's Landon Moore.

In the Semifinals, Nietfeldt jumped out to a big lead, 4 up, after the front nine. That stretch included four birdies for him, and he never relinquished the lead, eventually closing out Moore, 3 and 2.

The boys' Final will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. The updated brackets are available under the Scoring tab of the championship websites below, along with additional information.
