Amateurs Go Back-to-Back at Nebraska Cup
Matches conducted Tuesday at Lost Rail Golf Club
GRETNA (June 16, 20256 – The NebGolf Amateurs won for the second-straight year, taking the 54th Nebraska Cup Matches on Tuesday at Lost Rail Golf Club in Gretna, 38.5-33.5.
The event annually pits the state’s best amateur golfers versus the state’s top professionals in both Four-Ball and Singles matches. The Amateurs won back-to-back Cup Matches for the first time since 2014-15. The Nebraska PGA's lead in the series is now 30-24.
The Pros took the lead after the Morning Four-Ball Session, 20-16. Nick Wanderscheid and Ryan Vermeer were the only pair to sweep all six points of the Nassau-scored matches, taking down Nolan Johnson and Henry Kosmicki of NebGolf. Jackson Benge and David Easley were the highest point-earners for the Amateurs, taking five points from Shane Zywiec and Mike Coatman.
The Amateurs took over during the Afternoon Singles though, rolling to win the session, 22.5-13.5. They won seven of the 12 matches, including four sweeps. Brian Csipkes, Peyton Koch, Beau Petersen and Coltrane Mittag each earned all three points in their Singles matches. Johnson, Calvin Freeman and Ed Wyatt also won their matches.
Petersen and Mittag led the way for the Amateurs, each earning seven of a possible nine points in their matches. Benge and Koch were next with six points apiece.
The highlight of the day came from Lincoln's Jayson Brueggemann, who made a hole-in-one on the par-3 5th hole.
