Kim, Thiele Set Girls' Scoring Record, Kosmicki, Tenopir Share Junior Am Lead
Round One Conducted Monday at Oakland Golf Club
OAKLAND (June 8, 2026) – It was a record-setting day at Oakland Golf Club on Monday for the first round of the 26th Nebraska Girls' Amateur Championship and the 59th Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship.
In the Nebraska Girls Amateur, Naryn Kim of Lincoln and Brooke Thiele of Wahoo broke the championship single round record, each carding a 69 (-3) in their first rounds.
Twenty-five boys finished their first round of the Nebraska Junior Amateur in red figures, the highest number of golfers under-par on record in championship history.
The top of the leaderboard features Nathan Kosmicki of Grand Island and Hayden Tenopir of Lincoln, both firing rounds of 66 (-6).
Five junior girls went under par in Round One, which is also a record in the Girls’ Amateur Championship history. The rounds by Kim and Thiele are the first in the 60s at the championship, besting Haley Thiele's round of 70 (-2) in 2015 at Four Winds Golf Course in Kimball.
Tied for third is KayLynn Jorgensen of Minden, Lauren Murnan of Omaha, and Anna Midyett of Bennington, who each carded a 71 (-1).
Omaha commit Eden Larson of Lincoln ended her first round with a 74 (+2), putting her into sixth place and five shots off the leaders. Tasha Kolbas of Lincoln finished her first round with a 75 (+3).
Two golfers sit tied for eighth place and seven shots off the leaders. Stella Sedlacek of Columbus and Delaney Schmitz of Omaha each finished round one with a score of 76 (+4).
Rounding out the top ten is a tie between Hailey Schlegelmilch and Addison Kloeckner, who each carded a total of 78 (+6).
Back on the boys' side, Kosmicki and Tenopir both finished their final year of high school golf in May. Kosmicki’s first round ended bogey-free, with six birdies. Tenopir birdie two of his last three holes to tie Kosmicki for the round of the day.
Five golfers sit one shot off the leaders. Tied for third with a first round score of 67 (-5) is Miles Elgert of Lincoln, Tommy Kelley of Omaha, Chase Belka of Lincoln, Andrew Nietfeldt of Elkhorn, and Harper Kalin of Valley.
Another trio of golfers are tied for eighth at 68 (-4), including David Watson of Lincoln, Braeden Dyer of Hastings, and Jackson Ceder of Columbus, rounding out the top-10 after the first round.
After Tuesday's second round, the fields will be cut to the low 15 girls and the low 36 boys, including ties. Those players will advance to the Final Round on Wednesday.
