Stroke Play Qualifying Completed Tuesday at Fremont Golf Club

FREMONT (July 7, 2026) - A handful of players finished at the top and earned medalist honors on Tuesday at Fremont Golf Club, following Stroke Play Qualifying for the 64th Nebraska Girls' Match Play Championship and the 37th Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship.

Lincoln's Carter Honnens, Kearney's Nash Malone and Waco's Jaxson Hinze all posted rounds of 68 (-3) to tie for medalist, while Wahoo's Brooke Thiele and Minden's KayLynn Jorgensen also shot rounds of 68 (-3) to top the girls' field.

After a random draw, Honnens is the No. 1 seed, Hinze is the No. 2 seed and Malone is the No. 3 seed. Thiele is the No. 1 seed on the girls' side, while Jorgensen is the No. 2 seed.

The girls' field was cut to 16 players, with no playoff necessary. Exactly 16 players finished at 80 (+9) or better.

A playoff was needed to complete the boys' bracket, with eight players competing for the final five spots after finishing tied at 75 (+4). Fremont's Boston Bojanski, Lincoln's Hayden Tenopir, Elkhorn's Fischer Hitchcock, Omaha's Oliver Athen and Papillion's Layton Hodges all earned spots in the bracket through the playoff.

The boys' Round of 32 will begin Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., followed by the girls' Round of 16. Another round of matches will be contested in the afternoon.
