Brian Csipkes of Gretna and Andy Sajevic of Omaha shared medalist honors at -5 (67) in qualifying for this year's U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island. A third player from the Omaha area, Matthew Junge, also qualified after topping Ryan Nietfeldt of Elkhorn in a play-off. Junge and Nietfeldt both shot 68 (-4). Nietfeldt is the first alternate. Csipkes round was highlighted by seven birdies, Sajevic's featured an ace on the 163 yard 14th hole. Next up for the three qualifiers is the national championship scheduled September 9-14 at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, New York. For complete results link to the appropriate tab above.
Entries are open to amateur golfers who will have reached their twenty-fifth birthday by September 9, 2023 and have an up-to-date Handicap Indexยฎ based on ratings for men not exceeding 3.4 under the Rules of Handicapping. A current Handicap ID number (GHIN) issued through an authorized golf club is required and must be submitted on the entry form.
Amateur Status: All amateur players must conform to the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by the United States Golf Association and The R&A.
Performance in Qualifying: If a player fails to return a score within 10 strokes of the Course Rating™, an entry filed by him for a future U.S. Open, Senior Open, U.S. Amateur or U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship may be declined, unless the player can document that he is capable of competing at the national championship level. Please note that players who โno cardโ are subject to receive a letter from the USGA under the same guidelines as those who do not return a score within 10 strokes of the Course Rating.
Withdrawal from Qualifying: Players can withdraw by logging into their account and clicking on the WITHDRAW tab. They must also the Official in Charge prior to their scheduled Qualifying round. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from future USGA competitions.
Entry fee of $180 must be paid by every player. Players who withdraw prior to close of entries will receive a refund less a service charge. Players can withdraw by logging into their account and clicking on the WITHDRAW tab. Players who withdraw prior to the close of entries will receive a refund of $135. Players who withdraw after the close of entries and by 11:59 PM EDT two days prior of the qualifier will receive a $95 refund. Players who withdraw after 11:59 PM EDT two days prior of the qualifier will not receive a refund.
ENTRY APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY USGA NO LATER THAN 4 P.M. C.D.T. on WEDNESDAY, JULY 19, 2023. Late applications are not acceptable and will be automatically rejected. (Entries by telephone, telegraph, mail or FAX are not acceptable.) Time limit for entries means time of receipt at USGA (not time entry is transmitted to USGA). Entries should be submitted early to allow ample time for delay or error in transmission. The risk of delay or error in transmission lies solely with the entrant and the USGA will have no liability with respect to any such delay or error and the consequences therefrom, including rejection of the entry.
Qualifying: 18-holes, stroke play.
Qualifying: Silver medal awarded to lowest 18-hole score; if a tie, duplicate medals will be awarded.
The NGA will post QUALIFYING scores for all competitors in the field who have a Handicap Indexยฎ issued by the USGA.
Qualifying Places
78 players will be competing for three (3) qualifying and two (2) alternate places. A tie for the last qualifier's place, or an alternate's place will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole play-off.
Practice Rounds
Practice rounds can be arranged for a date July 1 or later by contacting Riverside GC golf shop at (308) 382- 2648. Note: Reservations can only be booked no sooner than one week in advance. Practice round rate is $44+tax (walking) or $64+tax (w/ cart).
