Easley Comes Back to Win 28th Nebraska Mid-Amateur
Final Round Conducted Sunday at Beatrice Country Club
BEATRICE (August 23, 2026) - David Easley of Lincoln came from three strokes back during the Final Round to win the 28th Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship at Beatrice Country Club on Sunday.
Easley secured his second title in three years with a Final Round 67 (-5), finishing two strokes clear of second with a 206 (-10) total. He is the sixth player to win multiple titles and is the second-oldest to win the championship at 47-years-old.
The Final Round started with showers and the rain persisted for most of the day, finally letting up as the leaders made their way down the back nine. Elkhorn's Andy Sajevic started the day with the lead at 8-under, but lost it after a triple-bogey-8 on the par-5 fourth hole.
Easley had no issues to start, making birdie on two of his first four holes to vault into the lead with Omaha's Dylan McCabe. The lead switched hands to McCabe after a birdie on No. 6, but that would be his last birdie of the day.
Meanwhile, Easley made five-straight pars to finish the front nine in 34 (-2). He added a birdie on the par-3 11th though to move to 8-under and tie the lead. His next birdie came on the next par-3, No. 15, where Easley chipped in and took the solo-lead at 9-under.
On the shortened par-4 17th, Easley drove the ball short and left of the green and pitched to just inside 10-feet. He rolled in the birdie putt to move to 10-under and at that point, his lead was three-strokes. McCabe had bogeyed No. 16 and another bogey on No. 17 dropped him back to 6-under.
Sajevic had made a run, making birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to move to 8-under, two-strokes back. However, Easley calmly hit a solid tee shot on No. 18 and his approach shot found the green, where he two-putted for par to seal the win.
It was the fifth runner-up finish for Sajevic in this championship. He birdied three of the last five holes to move into second at 208 (-8) with a Final Round 72 (E).
McCabe shot 73 (+1) to tie for third at 210 (-6) with Table Rock's Calvin Freeman. Freeman was the only player other than Easley to shoot three-straight rounds under-par, closing with a 70 (-2) to tie McCabe. He also made five-straight birdies on the back nine to get into contention.
Three players tied for fifth at 214 (-2), including Omaha's Vance Janssen, and Bennington's Glenn Bills and Johnny Spellerberg.
Elkhorn's Matthew Quandt finished eighth at 216 (E), while three players tied for ninth to round out the Top 10. Omaha's Alex Kubik, Patrick Duffy and Lincoln's Travis Minzel all finished at 217 (+1).
